Jubilee Documentary, pt. 2

Jubilee Documentary Pt. 2 from lauterhaus on Vimeo.

When Queen Elizabeth I asks her court alchemist to show her England in the future, she is transported 400 years to a post-apocalyptic wasteland of roving girl gangs, an all-powerful media mogul, fascistic police, scattered filth, and twisted sex. With Jubilee, legendary British filmmaker Derek Jarman channeled political dissent and artistic daring into a revolutionary blend of history and fantasy, musical and cinematic experimentation, satire and anger, fashion and philosophy. With its uninhibited punk petulance and sloganeering, Jubilee brings together many cultural and musical icons of the time, including Jordan, Toyah Willcox, Little Nell, Wayne County, Adam Ant, and Brian Eno (with his first original film score), to create a genuinely unique, unforgettable vision. Ahead of its time and often frighteningly accurate in its predictions, it is a fascinating historical document and a gorgeous work of film art.

meat master [video]

here's one from the archives. decontextualized site-specific video and sound piece for an installation in spring 2004. i was working with ideas of voyeurism at the time; it came out looking and feeling a bit like a horror flick.

PARK-N-PAWN part I [video]

wow, so it's been a couple weeks since i've actually posted any video work here. i've been busy searching for a job around atlanta, although i'm not really sure i want to stay here much longer. last night meredith, sanden, anne and matt called me from minneapolis, which is one of the locales i'm seriously considering moving to. talking to the crew was great for my morale.. now it's just a matter of striking out on my own before this most recent dose of courage fades away.

all that aside, i'm posting an experimental Dogme-style video that Jake Blade and i created around late decemberish. the beginning is a bit vertigo-inducing, but that all evens out pretty quickly. so anyhow, here's part I of an eventual 4 or 5.

(i divided the longer piece into "episodes" in hopes of making it more web-friendly)

guest DJ [video]

Being a guest DJ on my friends' radio shows at WOBC was the closest I ever got to radio fame. Check out this clip of me introducing a song by The Damned on Emily Klim's rockin' radio show. It was merely the first in a strange series of events that would occur that night..

Infohell [video]

So, I realize the whole midget fad is terribly passe, but apparently these guys didn't get the message. In true entrepreneurial spirit, they continue to capitalize on being not only "little people", but also business men and twins. (smoke 'em if you got 'em, I guess..) But seriously folks, extended chunks of paid programming (especially around 3:30 in the morning) should be avoided like the plague. This twisted glimpse into cable's deepest, darkest recesses ought to convince your skeptical ass..

Classic Movie Memories [video]

Oh wait! I was just kidding about my promise to never again think about (or post video regarding) weddings. I just found this clip in my personal archives and decided the subject matter was far too apropos to be ignored.

Oberlin Weeds [video]

The time has come to post a video that does not have to do with weddings or Get Married Atlanta. Here's a little audio-visual portrait of N. Main Street as seen through the weeds next to HQ. I must be feeling nostalgic about "the bubble" as school gets underway yet again, sans this here liberal artist.

Garden Party [video]

The show is officially in sales mode. I've been making stacks and stacks of pilot episode DVDs to be sent out as part of the media kit, but a lot of these clips can be found online. This is one of my favorites though, perhaps due to my extensive familiarity with the raw footage being used.. Believe you me, this chef certainly does love his special, fresh herb garden.
