J.B.

On Fathers' Day, I took this portrait of my grandfather with his recently restored Plymouth Valiant. Now that he's retired from the automotive biz, restoring classic cars to their original, historically accurate former selves is his passion. (We're talking everything from chrome to the original window sticker!) You can give this photo the thumb's up at jpgmag.com until August 8, 2007.

35mm mamiya
this image is from a roll of 35mm film shot with my mamiya C330. in order for this to work, i had to make some minor modifications similar to dave smith's suggestions.
i like the effect of exposing the entire 35mm frame, sprocket holes and all, and first experimented with this technique using a holga. unfortunately, due to a problem rewinding the film after shooting, only the last two images came out. this picture depicts the afternoon sunlight, filtered through blinds and projected on an interior brick wall. better luck next time.

overexposed
roll 2 from the dirkon pinhole was almost entirely overexposed. out of 27 exposures that i shot, this is the only one displaying some semblance of a discernable image. that being said, i still have no idea what it is. if i had the heart to experiment (read: waste) with another roll of film, i'd use ISO 100. 400 speed was obviously too sensitive for my careless pinholing tendencies.

dirkon fuck
this is what happens when you incorrectly load the take-up reel and don't inform the photo guy. the exposed film was wound backwards, and apprently this causes big problems. not only was my film destroyed, i also mucked up jack's color negative developing machine.

dirkon paper pinhole
my latest project was building this paper pinhole camera. the template is from a 1979 magazine (An ABC of Young Technicians and Natural Scientists) published in communist czechoslovakia. you can find more information, including the template here. be sure to print the .pdf file at full size (not fit to page) and on stiff paper (i used card stock). i just finished a test roll from the camera, so i should have the negatives developed and scanned soon.
